Mirza Ghulam Ahmad founded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in 1889. He was born in Qadian, India, in 1835. In 1889, he declared himself the Promised Messiah and Mahdi of all humanity at a mosque in London. Under his leadership, the community expanded from a small group of followers to an international organization with over four million members in more than 185 countries
At his death, he was succeeded by his son Mirza Qadiani (the fifth successor to Jesus Christ), who is also the current leader of the worldwide community.
